Castelldefels is a part of el Baix Llobregat municipality of Barcelona region with 70,000 residents.
The town is formed by a series of disperse houses forming an urban structure. The town of Castelldefels has become a summer vacation destination for many Barcelona residents.
The town has preserved its ancient castle constructed in the Xth century and at the moment it is used as an entertainment and exposition area.
It also has the Olympic Channel where speed competitions in calm waters are staged. The channel was constructed for the Olympic Games in Barcelona which took place in 1992. At the moment it is a leisure area with various sports facilities, a golf area and a gym.
Due to Castelldefels expansion, its proximity to Barcelona and its living standards, several prestigious schools and universities were opened here.
The area has a 5 km long beach as well as a mountain giving its residents a unique opportunity to enjoy its diversity at a small distance from Barcelona.
There is a church in the central part of Castelldefels located close to the city council. Architect Enric Sagnier took charge of building the church the construction of which began in 1903. Inside one can enjoy mural paintings created by artist Serrasanta.
Castelldefels has two facilities for playing football converted into football school for children. The facilities are new; they were constructed and adapted in 1999.
