Casa Burés in Barcelona will become luxury real estate

Luxury properties in Barcelona: Casa Burés will become a house with premium flats.

“Efe” new agency informs that Casa Burés, a historical building located in Barcelona, will be completely renovated and converted into a superb residential house. This modern-style elegant building is a work of a famous Catalan architect Francesc Berenguer I Mestres, it was built in 1900-1905 through the request of a cotton giant Francesc Burés i Borràs. The authorship belongs to Berenguer although the project was signed by another architect, Miquel Pascual i Tintorer. The fact is that the talented Francesc Berenguer, who was cooperating with Antoni Gaudí for many years, never got a university degree which is why he had no right to sign any projects.

Casa Burés has five floors, a basement and an attic floor. Some of the original interior design elements have been conserved, such as wood and plaster sculptures, multicoloured stained-glass windows, animal capitals, mosaic and marble floors and high ceilings with flower plasterwork. One of the most fantastic rooms, the “children hall” (sala de los niños), is a spacious hall of 60 square metres decorated with mosaic and pictures with scenes from German tales. A fireplace with the scene of Hansel and Gretel meeting a witch (from a Grimm brothers fairytale) is a very interesting detail. The fireplace is facing a wood structure completely covered with carving meanwhile a mosaic on the floor creates the feeling of real tongues of fire flying out of the fireplace.

Casa Burés is situated in Barcelona at the junction of Ausiàs March and Girona streets. In 2007 it became a property of the city administration of Barcelona, it was planned to convert it into the centre of modern style interpretation and set the headquarters of the Museum of Architecture and Urban Planning here. However, the city administration plans did not come to life. The house turned out to be too complicated and expensive to use and in 2008 it became a property of the Government of Catalonia. Since Casa Burés is an important listed building, it is necessary to renovate it on time and maintain it in a perfect condition. As the result, due to the developing economic crisis Casa Burés was put out to tender and the building was sold to a British fund called Europa Capital Partners for 18,8 million euros at the end of 2014.

The new owner is planning to carry out a full renovation of the building and furnish 29 luxury flats with the living space ranging from 100 to 500 square metres each. The initial price of the objects and the date of their entrance to the market have not been announced yet.

During the last couple of years Casa Burés has continually become a place for shooting of several films, series and video clips. The most known out of them is a horror movie called “Darkness” (2002) directed by Jaume Balaguero. All the interior spaces of the house have been captured in the film.
